Construction Superintendent

Position Description: Under the direction of the Chief Operating Officer, the Construction Superintendent’s principal duty is to lead and manage any on-site construction, overseeing all work activities to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, according to specifications, while maintaining safety compliance; this includes coordinating subcontractors, managing schedules, and resolving any issues that arise during construction.

This is a Full-Time position on Kodiak Island, Alaska. Occasional travel is expected to support project objectives.

Aurora Launch Services (ALS): Aurora Launch Services is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Alaska Aerospace, established to provide low cost, highly reliable launch services on a contract basis to both government and commercial space launch customers worldwide.  The company is headquartered in Anchorage, Alaska, co-located with Alaska Aerospace.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

1. Interpret project blueprints and specifications, develop detailed work plans, and oversee the daily operations of the construction site to adhere to project timelines.

2. Conduct regular quality inspections to ensure all work meets project standards, identify potential issues, and implement corrective actions.

3. Monitor progress on the construction site, identify potential problems, and make necessary adjustments to maintain project schedule and budget.

4. Identify and address any challenges or obstacles that arise during construction, finding solutions to ensure project completion on time and within budget.

5. Manage Spaceport Enhancement upgrades to Facilities, equipment, and site-specific programs run by Department Leads.

6. Lead and motivate the members of the program team, providing guidance and support to ensure efficient work practices.

7. Maintain open communication with project managers, engineers, subcontractors, and other stakeholders, providing regular progress reports and updates on project status.

8. Other related duties, as assigned.

Required Knowledge/Experience/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills, able to work with all levels of Contractors, Subs, employees and management within the organization.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Well-developed time management skills, ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities, meet strict deadlines, and handle confidential matters in a mature and responsible manner.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (requires U.S. Citizenship).
  • Background check and drug screen required.
  • Willing and able to work extended hours, overtime, and on weekends, as required.

Preferred Knowledge/Experience/Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years’ experience in civil construction, ideally with a supervisory role on large-scale projects.
  • Knowledge and/or experience related to management of Federally Funded Projects.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage teams effectively, motivate workers, and resolve conflicts.
  • Excellent analytical and decision-making abilities to identify and address issues on the construction site.

ITAR Requirements

To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.

Compensation

A competitive salary and benefits package, determined upon experience level of individual, will be negotiated after an offer to hire has been given. Salary range for this position is $110,000.00 – $148,000.00 per year DOE.
