Aurora Launch Services (ALS): Aurora Launch Services is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Alaska Aerospace, established to provide low cost, highly reliable launch services on a contract basis to both government and commercial space launch customers worldwide.  The company is headquartered in Anchorage, Alaska, co-located with Alaska Aerospace.

Position Description: Under the direction of the Alaska Aerospace Chief Financial Officer, the Senior Accounting Manager is a key member who will provide leadership in areas of accounting as well as compliance with Government regulations that fall within the Finance department’s purview.

Provides management with financial information through the preparation of detail data, account reconciliation and assistance with financial reporting.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  1. Responsible for the preparation and review of required government financial submissions: Invoices, CDRLs, and Incurred Cost Proposals.
  2. Ensure companywide accounting/financial compliance with CAS and FAR (existing & emerging regulations)
  3. Primary interface with Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA), Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA) and other government representatives.  Assists with audits as needed to ensure timely compliance.
  4. Support various government and financial audits and assist to develop responses to findings.
  5. Manage financial close activities and ensuring accurate and timely month end and year end close.
  6. Provide education and promote understanding of government compliance requirements throughout the organization.
  7. Establish, document, and ensure compliance with revenue recognition methods on government contracts (a measure of progress, variable contract value estimates, etc.)
  8. Assistance and review of payroll function.
  9. Assistance and review of accounts payable function.
  10. Ensuring accuracy of reconciliation of payroll and accounts payable related accounts.
  11. Assist preparation financial reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information and trends.
  12. Ensure accurate and timely reconciliation of bank accounts.
  13. Ensure accurate and timely entry and maintenance of Fixed Asset system.
  14. Maintains financial security by following internal accounting controls.
  15. Calculation and preparation of various journal entries.
  16. Other analysis and reconciliation as requested by management.
  17. Ongoing process improvement in areas of responsibility.
  18. Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge/Experience/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting; CPA and/or CMA certification preferred.
  • Five (5) years Finance/Accounting experience with U.S. Federal contracting.
  • Extensive knowledge of FAR, Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement, CAS, DCAA, and DCMA.
  • Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Knowledge of FAR, T&M, Cost Plus and Fixed Price invoicing requirements.
  • Ability to use COGNOS and Excel on an intermediate level.
  • Experience working in ERP, i.e. Costpoint, WAWF, PIEE, COGNOS, etc.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills are necessary, as is the ability to cultivate critical inter- and intra-departmental working relationships, foster an environment of cooperation and trust, and effectively meet deadlines while providing a high level of customer service.
  • Ability to prioritize and direct limited resources to the most critical areas and issues.
  • Strong operational capability and sense of urgency to drive completion and achievement of departmental initiatives.
  • Solid knowledge of governance, risk management, and compliance program frameworks.
  • Execution of internal controls.
  • Excellent Time management skills and commitment to deadlines.
  • Exceptional organizational and multi-tasking skills.
  • Proficient in personal computers, excel and software including Microsoft Office products, Deltek Costpoint preferred.
  • Strong analytical and conceptual thinking skills; ability to analyze data.
  • Ability to prioritize workload and self-manage projects, handle multiple tasks and meet strict deadlines.
  • Detail oriented and strong problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Able to work with all levels of employees and management within the organization.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) secret security clearance.
  • Background check and drug screen required.
  • Willing and able to work extended hours, overtime, and on weekends, as required.

This is a full-time exempt position that may be located in either Anchorage or Kodiak, Alaska.

Other Desirable Qualifications:

  • Certified Public Accountant and/or Certified Management Accountant.
  • Master’s degree in business or accounting or related field.

ITAR Requirements

To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
