Aurora Launch Services (ALS): Aurora Launch Services is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Alaska Aerospace, established to provide low cost, highly reliable launch services on a contract basis to both government and commercial space launch customers worldwide.  The company is headquartered in Anchorage, Alaska, co-located with Alaska Aerospace.

Position Description: The Range Safety and Telemetry Department (RSTS) is seeking an engineer to provide program management expertise, engineering, modernization, testing of field instrumentation, control systems, and telemetry in support of launch operations. Key attributes of this position include the ability to achieve results in asset management/modernization, business line diversification and customer satisfaction levels.

U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance.

Location: This is a full-time position located in Anchorage, Alaska.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  1. This position is responsible for leadership and management of the overall planning, development and execution of the RSTS initiatives to support organizational goals, objectives, and expected financial results.
  2. Responsible for development of RSTS Training Program including gap assessment of current program and need areas in addition to skill development for existing employees on path to formalized program.
  3. Analyzes project feasibility, prepares cost estimates, writes specifications, reviews and recommends all related expenditures to ensure funds are obligated; assumes administrative and fiscal responsibilities as delegated.
  4. Develop, monitor, and report on project objectives, budget, schedule, and performance.
  5. Facilitates and directs scheduling activities to ensure smooth operations and optimal use of assets.
  6. Responsible for the quality of deliverables
  7. Directs and coordinates sequencing of work, such as build and delivery, to ensure smooth operations and optimal use of resources.
  8. Verify stability, portability, security and scalability of asset architecture.
  9. Interfaces with customers to understand customer needs and issues and ensure that the customers receive satisfactory standards of service.
  10. Responsible for documenting specifications about design, installation, and other system-related information.
  11. Support integration of RSTS system into the launch vehicle testbeds and flight systems and conduct all associated integrated checkout testing and mission operations activities.
  12. Monitor systems to detect and prevent potential problems.
  13. Proactively identify and assess emerging technical and programmatic risks at the system, subsystem level and then work with the Internal and External Stakeholders to develop and evaluate mitigation approaches.

Required Knowledge/Experience/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 10-15 years’ experience in program management.
  • Experience with communications systems or telemetry.
  • Experience supporting programs across the entire lifecycle in aerospace, defense, or similar industries.
  • Advanced knowledge of engineering project disciplines to manage, coordinate and administer large and/or complex projects with high public visibility and impact, as well as negotiation and coordination skills and related characteristics.
  • Strong grasp of systems engineering fundamentals, with the ability to execute and apply these fundamentals in support of this position.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) secret security clearance.
  • Background check and drug screen required.

Preferred Knowledge/Experience/Qualifications:

  • Aerospace engineering experience preferred.
  • Experience with Flight Termination Systems.
  • Experience with regulatory body specifications (RCC 319 and RCC 324).

To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.

Compensation

A competitive salary and benefits package, determined upon experience level of individual, will be negotiated after an offer to hire has been given. The salary range for this position is $115,000-$150,000 per year.
